Performance, script, music, installation, object and painting
Cuba, due to a coincidence of environmental and circumstantial factors, is the only territory where the Marabú shrub achieves a population predominance that gives it the name of plague. The “infection” of millions of hectares by this plant, also known as “thorn of the devil”, has propitiated since 2000 advertising campaigns and agricultural reforms for its elimination. At the end of 2014 the television media abruptly turned the terminology of the discourse from “plague” to “energetic medium”, something like from devil to salvation, due to the economic potentialities that it reports. The installation and the performance at the Servando Gallery (whose fence on Calle 23 was superimposed on another Marabú fence) developed the cult of a sect of worshipers of the formerly evil. The catalog-work made a synthesis of the route and change of sign experienced by the bush in terms of public opinion, it recreated in a theatrical way the three acts of performance and served as a vehicle for the propagation of Marabú through its seed given as a gift.
